Why I Made This Site - 25-5-22

Hello, and welcome to my first blog post :)

My name's lichenaut. My favorite color is

green, actually, I'm learning English, Finnish, and Spanish, I ran a profitable Minecraft server named "VoxelVerse" in 2018-2019, I still wear my mask, and I proxy my Magic cards. Right now, I'm in the window of time where I've recently completed my last round of final exams for my Computer Science BS at the University of Colorado: Denver, but am still waiting on my diploma, and so I figured now would be a great time to finish developing the first version of my personal website.

I've made this website for a variety of reasons:

• I want to move away from using things from big technology companies as best as I can. I'm sure you've heard it before: the algorithms and how they shape our worlds, the effects on one's time and mental health, data collection and ownership, shareholders getting prioritized over any other kind of stakeholder, etc... All of that applies here, and I also want to help normalize using the net in a freer way, and so making a personal website is emblematic of putting that value into practice, in my opinion.

• I want a 'home base' for my projects, stuff about me, and whatever else I find valuable. There are things on this website I'm certain I'll reference later, and I hope that such material will be helpful for others, too! I'm also excited to use this website as a way for people to learn about me, my values, and things I like.

• I want to show off a part of my technical skills and organize things related to my professional life in a way that is easily-accessible.

• I wanted to create, and I want to maintain, this website as a means of self-expression, as I feel a little artistically out-of-practice.
